Mitch,

I agree with Scott that no one is going to remember your business because your company's name is one a pen that you gave away. But, I agree with you that people do remember kindness. If you gave somebody something that is meaningful - it is likely the person will remember you. It's not the engraved name of your business that matters. It takes more than that. Sometimes it is not so much a matter of money as it is a matter of timing.

I recall the year my computer user group was hosting a booth at in Atlanta's Olympic Town for the Georgia's Special Olympics Summer Games at Emory University in Atlanta. The Horizon Computer Store gave us a tremendous quantity of water bottle clip-on belt holders. We distributed those clip-on's through goodie bags filled with a variety of nick-nacks. Well, Olympic Town is normally held on one of the hottest weekends of the year in Atlanta - Memorial Day Weekend. People are thirsty and carrying bottled water with them. When folks began to see some folks carry their bottled water via belt clip-ons, it didn't take long before lines were forming at my group's tent just to get a goodie bag with a water bottle clip-on inside.

We ran out of goodie bags early that year. Although that was not the only year we had hot weather for Olympic Town. It was the only year we were given water bottle clip-on's to give away.

When you know you have what people want and you cleverly spread the word for them to come and get it, they usually come.
