Something I read about press releasesViews: 876

I don't remember where I read this, but it sounded like a good idea.

First off, it said that a press release has to be about something newsworthy. Then it gave an example.

A real estate developer sponsored a contest at a local school. The contest was for the art students to do a rendering of his new real estate development. Of course there were some sort of prizes. He had no trouble getting this press release placed and it included some of the student artwork. The artwork was, of course, of his development, making the article more attention getting and giving people an idea of what the development looked like.

Has anyone done anything like this?

Does this give anyone any ideas?

Ciao,
Linda

Hi Linda,

I like this short report. It is gives me some ideas.

I use PRWeb.com for publishing my press releases as one of sources.

Linda,

There are a lot of things you can do to draw attention to your business from the news media - especially things that fall under the classification of "community service." In fact, it is possible to get the news media to go to bat for you through your involved with nonprofit organizations.

Want an example? Here's one. I used to preside over a computer user group in Atlanta, GA. The Georgia Special Olympics approached me one day and asked if my little club would be willing to bring computers to their Summer Games Exhibition, known as "Olympic Town" at Emory University. We were only to bring computers and play games with the kids. Now, this was an outdoor event. The Special Olympics had to supply us with a tent, tables, chairs and access to electrical power. And, they did. Well, my little group was actually at this event replacing BIG BLUE (that's IBM), who refused to participate simply because the Special Olympics did not have a tent big enough to suit them. Well, my little group ended up replacing IBM for four straight years! During that time we are able to go to a well-known local radio station and get them to donate very nice door prizes - including tickets to Atlanta Braves games. My club's participation in the Special Olympics Summer Games garnered a lot of attention during those four years - culminating with a special award and some very nice press. We did not have to pay money to get the press coverage, either.

Not only is that a great way to get press, it's just a great way to be. Giving has a way of coming back around like this.

I'm libertarian on the subject of "monopoly". I do not fear it because I know the arrogance and detatchment from the marketplace of large firms eventually does them in.

Smaller, more responsive firms always fill the void, and become large, and so the circle of (business) life goes...
