I am looking for creative ways that I may not have thought of to promote a Christian greeting card. What would you suggest?

Hi Coretta,

Since you didn't tell what ways you have tried already, forgive me if I am repeating anything:

1. Post on church Bulletin Board

2. Find out who's "in charge" of sending cards to th sick and shut-in. If they buy cards from stores, maybe you could offer some kind of discount - or maybe give some samples. This would certainly create buzz.

3. Christian Schools - fund raisers? Maybe as part of a larger campaign.

4. Hospital Gift Shops - consignment opportunity?

5. Christian Bookstores - You probably did this already

6. Take some down to Volunteer Organizations - the ones that have thrift shops.

7. YMCA - is that allowed?

8. Big Brothers and Big Sisters - tie this in with hospital visits and nursing home visits. Who can resist darling children doing community service?

9. College Bookstores

10. Wedding Planners / Coordinators: just to let them know you exist

Cheers!

Mitch

Coretta,

You want to promote Christian greeting cards. That's awesome. Who is your "target market?" Answer: Obviously, the Christian community. You're not going to be selling Christian greeting cards to Muslims, Jews or Athiests. So, where do you go to sell to Christians? Well, you could go to Christian organizations, radio and television networks.

I do not really know enough about your product. What makes what you do different from what Hallmark Cards or Blue Mountain is doing? Do you simply sell cards you designed in a box? Or, do you design cards to order depending upon what the customers has in mind?

Please tell us more about your product and service.

Coretta,

Here's a thought for you. It's one thing to design cards and expect people to beat a path to your door. But, there needs to be a special "hook" to what you have to offer that makes you stand out from your competition.

Think about what your competition does. Folks like Hallmark actually have their own stores and distribution network. That's the good news for them. What's the bad news? This prevents them from being able to personalize any of their cards. Folks are forced to find a card that meets their needs. They cannot "personalize." But, you can...and that's your good news.

Now, suppose you were able to mass produce beautiful postcards and get them distributed in a high-traffic areas. Let's say people could get the postcards for free. However, in addition to the beautiful picture there was an advertising message by a particular company. That company is the one who paid you - not only for the card's creation, but its distribution. I think you could make a lot of money this way. Take your skill directly to the marketing departments of big corporations. What do you think about that?

Thanks for all your suggestions. And regarding the last one, Lamar, I will also apply it to my online greeting card business where people are asking me to create personalized cards and e-cards for them.

Thanks again, I am equipped with enough information to begin.
